Columbus Theater in Columbus, ND I bought this theater building and property sight-unseen at an auction recently because I always wanted to own a theater. But it is so far away, I probably never will visit it. And my wife has been bugging me to get rid of extraneous real estate. So, here it is. The deed is currently properly recorded in Burke County, ND. There are no liens or back taxes owed. Taxes are paid through 2011. We will send you a Special Warranty Deed transferring it to your name, signed and notarized. You can file it by mail (with $15) to the Burke County Auditor, and we’re done. The theater, from what research I did, was operating from the 1920s to the 1980s. It was showing plays and concerts in the 1920s and 40s, and movies at least 1940s, 70s, and 80s. It is on 2nd Avenue and Main Street. There is a cafe on its block. The property is very close to Highway 5. From what I can see, the property looks like it is right at the main intersection of the main street of Columbus. Here are some pictures of the building on random internet sites. The pictures I have here on Ebay are more current. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/30889177 http://www.flickr.com/photos/strandarchives/309911852/ http://www.panoramio.com/photo/30889165 http://www.flickr.com/photos/afiler/2590594363/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/afiler/2590609423/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/afiler/2591442994/in/photostream/ You can also “Google Earth” it to see the satellite pictures of the top, and the Google Street View. The most recent pictures of the building I have are from April 2011, which a friend drove miles out of his way to take. Those are the ones on Ebay. Q: Are there keys? A: No, it’s locked, with no keys. The people I bought it from either didn’t have them, or didn’t send them to me. Q: Can I view the inside? A: Sorry, no, there are no keys, and I’m literally over a thousand miles away. Q: What is the street address? A: Somebody was nice enough to email me that the address is 318 Main Street, Columbus, ND 58727, but I have not verified that. There is no address on the outside of the building. The deed says “All of Lot 2 and South 5 feet of Lot 3, Block 14, OT, Columbus City” Q: What condition is it in? A: It is still standing. You are welcome to view and inspect the outside by visiting Columbus. It’s on 2nd and Main. What is the square footage of the building? A: Sorry, once again I don’t know. The building takes up the entire width of its lot, and its lot is five feet wider than the other downtown lots. In length it takes up most of its lot, too, almost to the back alley (or road?). A historical-theater internet site lists it as once having 300 seats, which is huge compared to modern multiplex screens which hold around 100-150. Also it has a small upstairs, which was the projection room. Q: How much are yearly taxes? A: I’ve been paying I think $83 a year. Q: Does it come with seats, projector, popcorn maker, and screen? A: I am selling the building and property, so please bid like you’re buying a building with nothing valuable inside. It is unlikely that someone would have left anything valuable to sit for 30 years. But if there is anything inside, you can have it, too. Q: Will you finance me, lease or rent, or take payments, or let me pay later, or wait for me to find financing? A: Sorry, no, I am only interested in selling this property for whatever quick cash it’s worth at auction. PAYMENT METHODS: We accept PayPal (all kinds). We CANNOT accept credit cards unless processed through your Paypal account. We will also accept other, common, paper kinds of payments which Ebay does not allow us to mention.
